Directions: You will use this page to review and practice how to make yes or no questions in German.
STEPS for Yes/No questions
1. Put the verb first
2. Change verb ending to –st
3. Change ich to du
4. Add the rest of sentence (details, activity)
Examples:
Ich schwimme gern. Schwimmst du gern? (Do you like to swim?)
Ich koche gern. Kochst du gern? (Do you like to cook?)
Ich gehe oft ins Kino. Gehst du oft ins Kino? (Do you like to go to the movies?)
Ich übe manchmal Klavier. Übst du manchmal Klavier? (Do you sometimes practice piano?)
Ich schwimme gern. Schwimmst du gern? (Do you like to swim?)
Ich koche gern. Kochst du gern? (Do you like to cook?)
Ich gehe oft ins Kino. Gehst du oft ins Kino? (Do you like to go to the movies?)
Ich übe manchmal Klavier. Übst du manchmal Klavier? (Do you sometimes practice piano?)
Remember that there are some verbs that are exceptions & must be memorized.
Ich fahre gern Snowboard. Fährst du gern Snowboard?
Ich lese manchmal. Liest du manchmal?
Ich esse gern Pizza. Isst du gern Pizza?
If the verb already ends in a 's' sound, then you only add a 't'
Ich tanze gern. Tanzt du gern?
Ich reise im Sommer. Reist du im Sommer?
Ich putze manchmal. Putzt du manchmal?
If the verb already ends in a 't' sound, then you have to add a 'est'
Ich reite gern. Reitest du gern?
Ich texte oft. Textest du oft?
Ich fahre gern Snowboard. Fährst du gern Snowboard?
Ich lese manchmal. Liest du manchmal?
Ich esse gern Pizza. Isst du gern Pizza?

Practice: Look at images below and say a yes/no questions for each one (either with a partner or to yourself) in German. You can use your vocab if you need to.
Get a Battleship paper from the substitute and play battleship with a partner. You must ask a yes or no question in order to 'attack' a space. Attach on page 88.
